New Zealand Government Proposed Requirements:
In April 2022, the New Zealand Government introduced draft legislation designed to strengthen the country’s response to modern slavery and worker exploitation. The proposal outlines a regulatory framework that would require organisations to actively examine and address labour related risks within both their domestic activities and their international supply chains.
The draft framework proposes that medium and large organisations publicly disclose the steps they are taking to manage modern slavery risks. Larger entities would also face additional responsibilities through mandatory due diligence obligations. These requirements are intended to ensure businesses implement systems that can identify, prevent, and mitigate modern slavery risks throughout their supply networks.
